I need to knuckle down 开始努力做事。

To ‘knuckle down’ means to put all your efforts into doing something. 意思是尽力去做某事。

I need to knuckle down and get a good mark in my final exams。我要开始奋发图强了，好在期末考试的时候考个好分数。

I need to knuckle down and get a pay raise or indeed a promotion in my job. 我得努力了，好加薪升职。

      To ‘pull one’s socks up’ is another way of reminding others that currently they’re not giving their best effort. 也可以用来提醒某人他目前还不过尽力。
